Last Saturday night, I organized the small workshop of Montessori environment for 0-6 months and my first dearest participants, Risa and Yuji tried the Dancer mobile.
土曜日の夜、モンテッソーリ教材の一つである「ダンサーモビール」のミニワークショップを開きました。手軽に作れて赤ちゃんに大人気のこのモビール。簡単に作り方をご紹介します。
Materials:
*Hologram paper or Shiny ORIGAMI paper in 2 colors (ex. Silver and blue)
*Thread and needle
*Approximately 90cm of doweling
*Pattern
*glue (to fix the knot on the doweling)
材料：
ホログラム紙（光沢のある折り紙）2枚
（シルバーと青が定番ですが、コントラストのはっきりした色ならどの色でも。2枚を張り合わせて使います。）
糸と針
ハサミ
竹ひご約90cm
型紙
ボンドもしくはのり
Construction
1)Trace and cut the shapes, separate into the different dancers
2)Cut dowelling 1 piece-35cm, 2 pieces-20cm
3)With a needle and silk thread, connect the head, arms and legs of each dancer leaving enough space so each can rotate.
4)Attach one dancer to each end of the shorter dowels on approximately 12cm thread.
5)Attach the shorter pieces to the longer piece of dowelling, balance and hang
6)Put a drop of glue on each knot.
作り方：
１．ホログラム紙を張り合わせた後、型紙どおりに形を切り抜きます。
２．竹ひごを用意します。長いものは35cm、短いのは約20cmを2本。
（ダンサーを吊るすとき、お互いに当たらないぐらいの距離があればOK)
３．糸でダンサーの頭と胴、胴と足をつなげます。
この時、それぞれのパーツが回転できるくらい、糸の長さにゆとりを残します。
４．約12cmほどの糸を残して、それぞれのダンサーを短い竹ひごにくくります。
５．長い竹ひごとダンサーのついた短い竹ひごを結びます。
６．バランスが取れたところで、ボンドもしくは糊で結び目を固定します。
This mobile should be hung 30-35cm from the baby’s eyes as his eyesight is still on development. 30-35 cm is almost the same distance as Mother’s breast to face.
このモビールは、赤ちゃんの目から約30-35cm程話して吊るします。3，4か月に入り、物がつかめるようになるともう少し高く吊るす必要があるのですが、生まれてすぐの赤ちゃんの視力はおっぱいを飲んでる時にお母さんの顔が分かる程度の距離。それが30-35cmなのです。
Mobiles are great help to babies. Before the birth, when they are in mother’s womb, they listen to mother’s voice, move their arms, touch themselves…they have been developing themselves. After 10 months in mother’s womb, they are finally out of it and need to adapt to the completely new environment. It’s their first time to experience gravity, big noise, light, and the way to take in nutrition, the way to breathe, the way to keep the temperature…etc are different. Right after the birth, they are busy exploring the new environment and for the first few months, they use their eyesight to explore the world. Imagine the baby who is kept in the cradle with bars which hinder his vision, who can see only white wall and ceiling in the hospital. It must be boring! It may be difficult to bring mobiles into hospitals (in Japan), but surely you can try to make environment which aids newborn's development. Mobile is one of the necessary items.
赤ちゃんは生まれた後すぐ、地球という全く別の環境に適応しなければなりません。体温のコントロール、呼吸、栄養の取り入れ方もお母さんのお腹の中とは勝手が違います。地球の重力、明るい光、大きな音、、、全てが初体験。始めの数か月、赤ちゃんがどうやって環境を探検するかというと「目」を使うのです。まだ、手足を思うように動かせない赤ちゃんですが、視力は身体の機能の中でも最初に発達するものの一つ。これは「髄鞘化」とよばれる神経がつながっていく順番と関係があります。
生まれたばかりの赤ちゃんは「見る」ことに興味深々。目を使って情報を収集しているのです。現実には、病院のベビーベットに寝かされ、生まれてから見えるものは白い壁と白い天井、ベットのバー、ということが多いようですが、そこにモビールがせめて一つあれば…。病院では難しくても、お家では、赤ちゃんの発達（この時期は「目」）を助けてあげる環境作りができます。モビールは赤ちゃんの最初の環境にあると便利なものの一つ。
Mobile gives children the visual stimulation. The points we should consider about mobile is 1) simple 2) color should be high in contrast 3) geometric shapes tend to catch baby’s attention. This dancer mobile keeps on moving softly and reflects light which changes dancer’s color.
When I observed babies, I found out the different reactions to different mobiles. This dancer mobile was one of the most popular ones and I highly recommend to all the parents to have one!
モビールの目的は赤ちゃんに視覚的刺激を与えるということ。モビールはシンプルで、色のコントラストが強いもの（白・黒など。パステルカラーよりも原色がお勧めです。）であれば、このダンサーモビール以外でも大丈夫。電池で動くモビールも売られていますが、それよりは風に乗ってくるくるとまわるこのダンサーは動きがゆっくり、そして多様のため、赤ちゃんの目を飽きさせない模様。
In the farm, I’m planning to continue hand-making workshops for Montessori materials. Especially for 0-3 years old, there are many things we can enjoy making by ourselves, and I like sharing what I learned & exchanging opinions.
How peaceful it was to see Risa&Yuji making mobile together and having fun! Their expected baby must have been happy, too:-)
農場ではこれからも、「モンテッソーリ子育ちグッズの会」（りさちゃん命名）を開催予定です。私が学んできた知識をみんなに役立ててもらったり、情報を交換したり、手作りを楽しんだり！（0-3歳のモンテッソーリ教材は手作りできるものがいっぱいです。）それにしても、未来のお父さん、お母さんが仲良くそして真剣に！子育ちグッズを作る様子って見ているだけでも微笑ましい。きっとお腹の赤ちゃんも何か感じてるんだと思わずにはいられません。
