Jakob has been collecting the apple seeds whenever he eats an apple, and one of the seeds he planted in a pot sprouted!
I've just finished re-reading one book ("You are therefore I am; A declaration of Dependence" by Satish Kumar), and found the interesting passage comparing the growth of apple tree to the one of human life.
最近、ヤコブ君のブームは種をあつめること。レモン、オレンジ、リンゴ、何を食べても、種を見つけるとすぐに宝物箱へ。２週間程前にまいたリンゴの種から、ついに芽が出ました！
林檎といえば、先日の風邪休暇中読んでいた本に、りんごの木の成長を人間の成長に例えた段落がありました。種として生まれた人間が、最後には「個別性」、自分であることにこだわりをなくし、木として、この世界全体に恩恵を与える人間に成長していく話でした。
For a seed to grow to be a tree, first it needs to be sown in a dark soil. Only by connecting with earth, the hidden energy of a seed gets released and new sprout comes up. To connect with earth, a seed needs to stop being a seed any more. The shell of the seed dissolves in the ground, and then seed and soil can become together.
Human being is compared to a seed in the book. We have our own shell to be a individual person, but the time we grow to become a tree will(should) come. At that moment, we don't need the shell (our ego) anymore. It has to be gone so that we can connect with something else and grow further.
種が木に成長するためには、まず土に植えられなければなりません。そして、土と種が結びつくことで、種の隠れていたエネルギーが解き放たれ、新しい芽が出ますが、そのためには、種は「種であること」をやめなくてはなりません。種を覆っていた殻を捨てること、自我を捨てることで他のものと結びつき、さらなる成長があるのです。著者は人間の成長も同じであり、切り離されているようにみえる個人が、いかに互いに依存し、つながっているかを述べています。
"A seed comes from a tree, and it becomes a tree. Being a seed is just a temporary form in the life. Why does the seed stick to be a seed if it eventually becomes a tree? We, human beings have also individuality, but it is only temporary. Or we even can say it looks like we have individuality, but we may not. My sweet son, do you exist in this world without me? Do you exist without foods you eat? Do you exist without earth you are sitting on? Our individuality is dependent on others. We can't separate individuality and others. A seed serves the earth, and the earth serves the seed. A tree falls leaves on the soil, and the soil gives nourishment to the root of the tree. In a same way, each individual soul serves each other and becomes fulfilled."
「種は木から生まれて、やがて木になるわ。種が種であるのは一時的なことでしかないのよ。種から木へと移り変わるのだから、なぜ種であることにこだわるのかしら？同じように、私たち人間もそれぞれ個別性を持っているけれど、その個別性は一時的なものでしかないのよ。私たちの個別性は実際とは違って、見かけだけかもしれないわ。坊やは、私がいなかったら存在するかしら？あなたが食べている食べ物なしに存在するかしら？自分が座っている地面なしに存在するかしら？私たちの個別性は実際には他者に依存しているのよ。個別性は他者とは分けられないものなの。種は土に奉仕し、土は種に奉仕する。木は土に葉を落とし、土は木の根に滋養を与える。こうして魂は互いに奉仕し、満たされるのよ。」（サティシュ・クマール「君あり、故に我ありー依存の宣言ー」）
From one single seed, the tree will produce thousands of apples, each of which has new life (seeds) inside. It's truly a miracle of nature, and this can be the thing the word "eternity" means. I, from time to time, have to remind myself that I'm a part of the whole and want to live as a tree which can benefit people around me, produces thousands of fruits, not staying as a seed for whole my life.
たった一つの種から、何千ものリンゴが実り、またその実一つ一つに生命の種がやどっています。自然の神秘、であり「永続性」とはこういうことを言うのかもしれません。
種であることにこだわらず、他者とのつながりを忘れず、千の実をつけるリンゴの木のように…生きれたらいいなと思います。
