
I didn't know that I could make playdoh by myself until Jo gave me her recipe. It looked very simple, but it worked really good!
What you need are: 1 cup of flour, 1 tbsp of oil, Half cup of salt, food color, 1 tbsp of "cream of tartar"
I first didn't understand what "cream of tartar" is. I asked my husband if he has ever heard about this and he thought I was making fun of him with my imaginary product. The reactions from the shop staffs were pretty much the same. They said "What? Hah?" and looked at me as if I were a stranger from other planet. I found that there is a web-shop which is specialized in baking ingredients and they can deliver it to me, but it was too late for the class, so I made my playdoh without it. "Cream of tartar" is still not so popular in Japan it seems.
First I mixed oil, salt, food color and water and stirred. Then I added flour, mixed it in the pan, kept the dough till it cooled down and kneaded it to be smooth. Apparently I didn't measured the flour correctly, so my playdoh was a bit sticky.
土曜日のクラスのために、粘土を作りました。粘土が自分で作れるなんて、ジョーさんからレシピをもらうまで知りませんでした。とっても簡単なレシピだったので、ここでも紹介します。
必要な物:小麦粉1カップ、植物油大さじ1、塩1/2カップ、食用色素、「クリーム オブ ターター」(粘土を長持ちさせるために入れるカリウム。スコーン作りなどに使われるそうです。)
*私はこのターターが手に入らなかったので、なしで作りました。
作り方:小麦粉以外をすべてフライパンに入れて温め、かき回します。火からおろしたら小麦粉を投入し、よく混ぜます。机の上などに出して冷めるのを待ち、冷めたら手でなめらかになるまで良くこねます。

Here is my first playdoh I made! For the first try, I think I did OK!:-)Just will be more careful with measuring next time.
こちらが完成品。小麦粉を計り間違えたようで、ネバネバ粘土になってしまいましたが、これもまた経験で良いことにしました。

My second art activity for the class was making the colors for "Rainbow in a bag". Again Jo's recipe was very clear and I enjoyed making it.
What you need are: 1 cup of corn starch, 1/3 cup of sugar, food coloring, 4 cups of water
Put corn starch, sugar and water in a pan and heat it till it gets thick. Then remove the pan from heat and wait till it gets cool. Put the thing into 3 bowls. Add some food color and mix it well.
そしてもう一つクラスのために作ったのが、カラーゼリー。「袋の中の虹」のアクティビティー用です。こちらもジョーさんのレシピを参考にしました。
必要な物: コーンスターチ1カップ、砂糖1/3カップ、水4カップ、食用色素。
食用色素以外をフライパンに入れて、温めながらかき混ぜます。液体が重くなるまで煮詰め、火からおろし少し冷まします。その後、作りたい色の数だけボウルに液体をあけます。食用色素を入れてよくかき混ぜます。

For me, mixing the food color part was so much fun!! Colors are so vibrant! Thank you very much for wonderful recipes, Jo!
色素がトロトロのコーンスターチに混ざる様子は、本当に面白いです!思わず「おぉ~」と一人で喜んでしまいました。

I have found that if it is a bit sticky, just add a bit more flour as you are kneading it, like when making pastry or bread dough. The colours came out great though!
