「デチタ。でちた。できた！」

赤ちゃんの静かな喜びに満ちたこの瞬間を見逃していませんか？
子どもは、生まれたその日から小さな「デチタ」を積み重ね、大きな「できた！」につなげていきます。 それなのに、私たち大人は、赤ちゃんの「デチル」ことに、手や口を出し、彼らの生きる力を 邪魔していることが意外に多いのです。子どもが何かとひたむきに向かい合っている姿を見守り、必要なときだけそっと手を添えるような大人になりたいものです。
この本は、そんな小さないのちの自立を育む大人の在り方について 米国在住のモンテッソーリ教師であり、3人の子どもをホームスクーリングで育てた女性 スーザン・スティーブンソンさんが書いた玩具カタログ本「Joyful Child」を日本語に訳したものです。

「デチタ。でちた。できた！」出版記念のトークイベントを東京国分寺のカフェスローで行います。

ゲストは、この本の監修者であり、全国の保育園、幼稚園で子どもが育つ環境のアドバイスを 続けている国際モンテッソーリ教師の深津高子さん。そして、この本の発行人である中村隆市さんです。 子どもの「できた！」を育むヒントを、本の中から、そしてお二人が旅した世界中の例から 共有していただく贅沢な９０分。ぜひ、ご家族みなさまでお越しください。

モンテッソーリ講演会のお知らせ

来週、「久我山子どもの家」でモンテッソーリの講演会があります。講師は、友人の深津高子さん。ピースボートで世界初の洋上「子供の家」を立ち上げ、日本全国でも多数の講演をしていらっしゃる方です。以下詳細です。子育て中の方、子育てに興味のある方、どなたでも参加できるそうです。

国際モンテッソーリ協会（AMI）公認教師、同協会元理事、モンテッソーリ教育通訳、NPO法人「幼い難民を考える会」理事、「ピースボート洋上「子どもの家」アドバイザー」。全国の幼稚園、保育園で子どもの視点にたった「保育環境見直し作業」に取り組むほか、幼児教育、環境問題などに関する講演及び執筆活動を行う。現在は、富山県でモンテッソーリ教師養成コースの通訳としても活躍中。

Autumn Festival in the farm

Last weekend, we had a festival in our farm, collaborating with "Yuttari-Ottari", the group my friend, Risa organizes. The main aim of this festival is showing all the hand-made materials and holding workshops to convey the idea that making things with hands is fun!

ゆったりおったりの森収穫祭が先週末農場で開かれました。農場の門をくぐると、素敵な１３夜のお月見の室礼、そして自家焙煎コーヒーのいい香り。農場の蔵では、ゆったりおったりの森で作られた手作りの品（藍染作品、蜜蝋キャンドル、手織り布、ポストカード、アクセサリー）が展示されました。

Many adults and children came to join the workshops. The picture shows one of the workshops, making the dumplings for "OTSUKIMI"(moon-viewing). This huge mortar was sleeping in the storage in the farm for quite a long time, and I'm very happy that these old things got to be in use again.

展示の他にも２日間に渡って盛りだくさんのワークショップ。上の写真はお月見の室礼についてのワークショップの一部。実際に、お月見団子をペッタン、ペッタン。この大きな臼は農場の蔵から出てきたもの。こうやって先祖代々伝わってきたものに、陽が当たるのは本当にうれしいことです。



After pounding the dough, we made the dough into small balls.

次はお団子を丸めます。子供も大人も、初対面にも関わらずみんな和気あいあい。



Another workshop is making stamps with erasers. How cute to have postcard with hand-made stamps.

消しゴムハンコのワークショップ、そして糸紡ぎのワークショップも行われました。どちらも日常で楽しめそう。




The workshop, spinning thread from wool ball was also held. Midori who organized this workshop taught us how to make the spinner with newspaper and carton board.

糸紡ぎはなんと、新聞紙と段ボールで作った糸紡ぎ機で簡単にできるそう。夢中になって黙々と糸をつむぐ方をたくさん見かけました。



On the second day, we had a workshop "book-talk".
２日目は、ブックトークに、モンテッソーリのモビール作り。ブックトークをしてくれた妙さんはこども図書館の司書であり、また「本の止まり木」を主宰しています。

Under the sunny-autumn sky, we listened to the picture books. How beautiful the picture book is. I was amazed to feel that my image in my mind spread over and over after listening to each sentence. I got so fascinated with this magic power of words! No wonder that children likes listening to the stories.

ブックトークでは、秋の青空の下、落ち葉の風に吹かれる音を聞きながら、みんな真剣に絵本の世界へ入り込んでしまいました。たった一文を聞いただけで、目の前にどこまでも広がるイメージの世界。ことばってすごい！絵本って面白い！また今後の楽しみが増えてしまいました。

TUKIMI

TUKIMI is a Japanese moon-viewing festival which celebrates the beauty of the full moon. Last Saturday, I visited my friends in Kanagawa and had a small party!

先週の日曜日は中秋の名月、十五夜でした。一日お天気はぐずついていましたが、夜にはきれいなお月さまが！お月見とは、十五夜と十三夜のお月さまを眺めることで、どちらかだけを見るのは「方見月」と言われ昔から嫌われたそう。見れてよかった、よかった～。実はこの夜は、月見の宴に招いてもらい、神奈川県の大倉山へ行ってきました。手作り大好きな私たち、とびっきりおいしい夕食の後は、いつの間にやら、夜な夜な各自黙々とモビールを作る会へと…。写真は「落ち葉（本物！）のモビール」。部屋のライトを満月に見立てています。

"Tsukimi refers to the Japanese tradition of holding parties to view the harvest moon. The custom is thought to have originated with Japanese aristocrats during the Heian period, who would gather to recite poetry under the full moon of the eighth month of the lunisolar calendar, known as the "Mid-Autumn Moon." Since ancient times, Japanese people have described the eighth lunisolar month (corresponding to September on the contemporary Gregorian calendar) as the best time for looking at the moon, since the relative positions of the earth, sun, and moon cause the moon to appear especially bright.On the evening of the full moon, it is traditional to gather in a place where the moon can be seen clearly, decorate the scene with Japanese pampas grass, and to serve white rice dumplings, taro, edamame, chestnuts and other seasonal foods, plus sake as offerings to the moon in order to pray for an abundant harvest. These dishes are known collectively as Tsukimi dishes. Due to the ubiquity of sweet potato or taro among these dishes, the tradition is known as Imomeigetsu or "Potato harvest moon" in some parts of Japan."

In our party, we, hand-making lovers, made mobiles. Here is the one with autumn leaves. The light in the room looks like a full moon, doesn't it!?


In Japan, we say "Rabbits are making MOCHI(rice dumplings) in the moon." Somehow the pattern on the full moon looks like rabbits for Japanese people:-) On TV screen, we displayed our mobile and KIRIE(cut-pictures). It was such a fun creative night!

月と言えば、うさぎ。今日という日にぴったりの切り絵です。私はお月さまをイメージして、切り絵を貼り合わせてみました。私達らしい月見の宴！楽しい夜でした。
今度の十三夜は丁度ゆったりおったりの森の収穫祭（in 源左衛門農場）にあたります。またきれいなお月さまが見られますように…

Candle making

The next day after Montessori workshop, we had another workshop for candle making with beeswax. This time again, many interesting people gathered in the farm. Every time it's so surprising how quicky people get to know each other! Making something together has a magical power, I feel. In the picture, people are busy cutting candle holder.

モンテッソーリワークショップの翌日、日曜日は「ゆったりおったり」主催の蜜蠟キャンドル作りが農場で行われました。今回も、面白い人たちが集まりました。普段まったく違う仕事をして、住んでる場所も違って、お互いに会ったこともない人たちが、キャンドル作りを核に「ゆったりおったり」の時間を共有していく。参加者みんなで織りなす時間、雰囲気が心地よくて、楽しくて！
今回のスタートは竹の切り出し。竹を切ってキャンドルホルダーを作っています。


These are the beeswax bars which were stored in the barn. They were about 40 years old and our family wondered who kept them in such a quantity for what. We guessed Gen's grand father bought them, but still we don't know for what he boght them so much... Probably he knew that his grandson would use them for candle making one day.

農場の蔵には大量の蜜蠟が眠っていました。この蜜蠟の板、新聞の日付を調べたら昭和４４年。今から約４０年前のものです。「おじいちゃんが買って入れておいたのかなぁ…でも何のために？」謎は謎のままでしたが、今回みんなでありがたく使わせてもらいました。


When everything was set for candle making, we had a lunch break! Listening to each other's story how one made the dish, how one grew vegitables in the yard made the tasty foods more tasty!

さーて、準備万端！に整ったら、作業に向けてお昼休み。みんなでワイワイ、お料理の仕方や畑でどんな野菜が育ってるかを話しながらご飯を食べました。一品持ち寄りランチって、小学校時代のお弁当のおかず交換と同じような楽しさがあります。


It's the beginning of a candle. Each of us got a thread and soaked it into the melted beeswax.

お昼の後は、キャンドル作り。一人一本タコ糸を持って、溶かした蜜蠟に浸けていきます。


Silence!
静寂。


Look at my candle!Some of us were not patient enough and the candle got thinner and thinner. We all learned that candle has to be dry before the next try.

私の蜜蠟キャンドル。いい感じです。忍耐強く蝋が乾くのを待たないと、蝋に浸す度にキャンドルが小さくなるはめに…


It's a nice try to make many candles at one time:-)
とにかく時間がかかる蜜蠟キャンドル。一度に４本を作る試みも始まりました。


Threads attched to the bar are put into the bamboo container and then beeswax is put. After beeswax gets solid, we simply can cut off the thread from the bar.

竹のキャンドル作り。竹を２つに割って、タコ糸で芯を作って、蜜蠟を流し込みます。蝋が固まってから、タコ糸を切ればキャンドルの出来上がり！


In the late afternoon, all the candles were done. We enjoyed displaying our candles. At the end of October, we are planning to have the festival of this year's harvest in this farm. The participants of the workshops will gather here and make a big exhibition of hand-made things. Of course, with good meals & sweets using veges from field:-)

夕方にはすべてのキャンドルが出来上がりました。みんなで展示したらこんなに素敵に！
自分で作ったキャンドルって、少しぐらい不格好でも思い入れがあります。いつ、どんなシチュエーションで使おうかな…。楽しく迷い中です。

Yuttari Ottari + Genzaemon Farm

Last Sunday, we had a big workshop in the farm. A group of hand-making lovers gathered and we did a big experiment! My friend, Risa has been organizing different kinds of workshops every month, and they give us the opportunity to enjoy hand-working, exchanging the skills, and meeting new people.
This time, we tried dyeing. As you see in the picture, we used a dye, indigo and it was a great success.

先週の日曜日は前々から参加したかった「染めたり織ったりの会」が源左衛門農場で開かれました。この会のメンバーは、みんな手仕事が大好き。ぶきっちょの私でも大丈夫かしら…なんて心配はよそに、大成功の会となりました。


This is when indigo was getting ready.

今回のテーマは「藍染」。


First cloth went into the first (blue) bucket which has indigo in it. Everybody gazed at the cloth! At this moment the color is more like yellow green.

まずは藍のバケツに布を浸します。5～10分待ってひきあげてみると…不思議、不思議。なんともいえない緑色です。


The second bucket (yellow) has water with acetic acid which prevent the color coming off.

2番目の黄色いバケツには酢酸液が入っています。色落ちを防止するために必要なのです。


The last bucket(green) has just plain water and the cloth has to be washed many times until no blue water coming out. As we washed the cloth, the colour became more and more blue!

最後はお水でジャブジャブ布を洗います。洗うごとに藍の色が強まってきます。


Half way through with dyeing. People are smiling, satisfied with their art work.

藍染の途中経過。洗濯ひもにかかったお洋服や布、最初は白かったのに段々と藍色比率が増してきています。それにしても、みんなの満足げな笑顔！


Now everything is blue! It's almost like an art exhibition in the farm! Our cat, Mie looks impressed with our work.

遠くから見るとまるでアートの展覧会のよう。


After the hard work, Gen presented "how to make good coffee". It was fun to see the whole process from roasting the beans to make a cup of coffee. He has been making experiments for a year and now we can call him a master of coffee. Good job, Gen!

3時のコーヒータイムには、農場の主、源一郎氏による「おいしいコーヒーの入れ方」講座。生豆をローストするところから見せてくれました。一年間の試行錯誤の成果！おいしいコーヒーが入りました。


Exchanging food is also fun part of our meeting. Everybody prepares one dish for lunch or coffee break to join this workshop. It was such a pleasant Sunday!

この会では、食べることも楽しみの一つ。一人一品、お料理又はお菓子を持ち寄ろう、ということでランチもおやつもとっても充実！！自分たちで育てた野菜を使ったお料理、自分たちで染めた布、みんな手を使って作られたものは既製品と一味違い、特別で、それぞれがやさしく、あたたかいオーラを放っているよう。台風前日にもかかわらず、ゆったりと心地よい、幸せな日曜日でした。
